New Cleveland Road and Manly Road Intersection Upgrade

Project Description

The upgrade of the New Cleveland Road and Manly Road intersection was constructed to increase the safety for motorists.  This was achieved by adding a second right hand turning lane which turned onto New Cleveland Road and an additional left turn from New Cleveland Road on to Manly Road.  The intersection was widened on the south east corner to accommodate a bike lane and an additional lane southbound.

New rate 3 lighting was installed along Manly Road and at the intersection.  A shared footpath was also constructed around the intersection to allow access to a new McDondalds.

Specific Issues:

  • Management of high volumes of traffic in both directions along Manly Road;
  • Coordinating the relocation and reconfiguration of the existing traffic signals;
  • Maintaining pedestrian and cycle access through and around the worksite;
  • Coordination with multiple construction sites adjoining our site.

Innovations used for the project:

  • Strategic traffic management planning to maintain peak flow of traffic through site, specifically along Manly Road inbound to the city;
  • Stagng of works to maintain unhindered pedestrian access to businesses around the site.
